Missions @ First

Below are descriptions of the Missions programs that FRCS currently runs out of our church.

BACKPACK PROGRAM

The Backpack Program provides weekend food for students in the Scotia-Glenville School District. Through a collaboration between First Reformed Church of Scotia, Trinity Presbyterian Church and the Schenectady Foundation, volunteers pack over 100 backpacks of food each week.

COMMUNITY LUNCH

The Community Lunch Program consists of a sit down luncheon on the last Saturday of each month and a bagged Grab And Go lunch. This mission offers these meals at no cost to our guests. Striving to feed the people of our community facing challenging times, this program offers a comforting meal, as well as support and encouragement to our neighbors.

EMERGENCY FOOD DISTRIBUTION

The Emergency Food Distribution program seeks to address food insecurity in the Scotia area. This program provides needy families with a large box of food on a regular basis and is also prepared to respond with a box of food to families in time of acute need.

SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM

Summertime has the potential to add increased stress to families in need as their children do not have access to free food at school. The Summer Lunch Program strives to fill this gap by offering quick, easy, nutritious snacks and small meals-to-go.

COMMUNITY CUPBOARD

The Community Cupboard is our own food pantry that is available 24/7 right outside our main hall doors.

OVER THE BRIDGE

Over the Bridge Outreach is an outreach ministry to the city of Schenectady, specially the Hamilton Hill neighborhood. This ministry focuses on feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, being a friend to the lonely, a crutch to the addicted and a motivator to the helpless.

KIDS HOPE USA

Kids Hope USA connects Christian churches with neighborhood elementary schools to operate a proven and established school-based mentoring program. Through intentional training and support, churches mobilize volunteer mentors into schools to meet with students once a week and develop a one-on-one mentoring relationships.
